Netiquette: Rule #5 - "I feel pretty...oh so pretty..."

"Making yourself look pretty online." - Grammar Skills

It can be an arduous task if your grammar skills consist of texting-lingo and personalized acronyms like "culd"  aka...see you later dude.    For younger adults this is a mighty challenge worthy of a few college level English classes.  For most older adults (older meaning....35+), using relatively decent grammar skills isn't as difficult. For you youngsters out there, the 30-below crowd, when in doubt follow these simple rules:

  1. Avoid Simplified Spelling
  2. Avoid Sentence Fragmentation
  3. Avoid Acronyms (example: IDK - I don't know)
Speak in whole sentences with properly spelled words.  Rule of thumb:  "Read 3 Times - Submit Once!"

"Know what you are talking about."  - Smarty-Pants Dance!

We've all read posts from individuals who claim to be an expert of some sort.  They say things like "I know what I 'm talking about.." then go on to impart some nugget of technical wisdom that is illogical at best.  When posting authority, use intros like "I believe it to be the case..." or "It's my understanding..." and be sure to always check your facts!  Bad wisdom spreads like wild-fire on the internet.  Pretty soon you'll see people quoting a bad post in emails like "Purple people eaters really do exist! MSNBC said so!"

Potty mouth is simply not acceptable...period.  They elaborate more in the manual and course than I will here but there really is no excuse for using profanity.  The world is full of colorful words that do not offend, if you feel the need to use an explicative, get a thesaurus.

In the next post we'll cover just how much "Smarty-Pants" to share.
